About the role

The Senior Sports Psychologist will apply world class sport psychology technical expertise, services to support senior leaders, coaches and athletes as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team for allocated sport programs.

The role will have the opportunity to work closely with coaches to create and employ strategies and assist with the development of necessary skills to improve decision making under pressure in moments of performance execution. The role will positively contribute to NSWIS organizational and high-performance planning, projects and initiatives, maintaining world class technical standards within the Sport Psychology discipline.

 

This is a full-time position, attracting an annual salary range of $116,368 - $121,356 plus superannuation.  The contract period for this role is up to 31 December 2028 in line with the Olympic cycle. 

This is an identified position requiring a Working with Children Check.

About you

You will have:

  • 6+ years of post-qualification experience in high performance sport across different sports and/or levels of the high-performance athlete pathway
  • Proven success in utilising sport psychology knowledge for planning, periodising, and managing athletes across multiple seasons/campaigns to support medal-winning performance (or equivalent) at a senior international level.
  • Highly developed understanding of factors and frameworks relating to athlete availability, performance under pressure, major transitions, and coaching best practice.
  • Highly developed communication skills including sharing formulations, building and maintaining high trust relationships, negotiation, influencing and representation.
  • Proven capability to work in an integrated multidisciplinary environment with high performance teams including coaches and athletes.
  • Proven experience implementing case management or triage processes to ensure appropriate care and referrals are accessible.
  • Proven experience in developing and influencing individual and team performance planning, monitoring, and review processes to achieve performance objectives.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated high understanding of a range of sport science/medicine sub-disciplines and how they interact to provide inter-disciplinary solutions in an elite sporting context.
  • Exceptional skills in building and maintaining productive, high-trust relationships.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical practice.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate qualifications in psychology
  • Registered psychologist with AHPRA 
  • Sport Psychology endorsement from AHPRA or equivalent 
  • Extensive experience in the provision and application of performance/sport psychology services  
  • Awareness of contemporary issues relating to athletes in high performance sport (mental health, wellbeing, social issues)
  • First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Current driver’s license
  • Working with Children WWCC
  • Sport Integrity Australia - Anti-Doping Fundamentals and Annual Update
